The Sony WM-FX323 is a basic, solid performer among radio/cassette players. Sony builds it with an old-fashioned analog AM/FM stereo tuner, manual tuning knob, and horizontal ruler-style dial. You control the auto-reverse tape player with large mechanical buttons. The WM-FX323 does come with a few niceties beyond auto-reverse, such as auto shut-off, the ability to properly adjust for metal/chrome tapes, and Sony's Mega Bass for bass-hungry listeners. There's also an FM local/distant switch that should help eliminate overload in strong signal areas. Sony's Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) helps protect your hearing and reduce distortion. The unit plays tapes for up to 13 hours or FM radio for up to 30 hours on a pair of alkaline AA batteries. The large foam pads of the headphones rest comfortably on the ear supported by the thin metal headband.
